Volunteer With Us
We are always reruiting new volunteers to join us in the Education Department. With so many exciting and varied opportunities there's something for everyone.

Whether you are looking to volunteer on a semi-full time basis or for a few days a year we are sure we can offer an opportunity that will suit your skills and interests.

Many of our volunteers get involved with many different roles and activities both within the Education Department and elsewhere on the North Norfolk Railway.

For more information on how to get involved please contact our Education Manager.
Volunteering Opportunities

Workshop Leaders
Workshop leaders run workshops for our school visits. You could be an ARP Warden for our Norfolk in WWII workshop, A fisherman in our Victorian Moving Britain workshop or take on many other roles and personas.

Workshop Assistants
Workshop assistants help the workshop leaders with the delivery of our school visits and provide valuable support for many other activities.

Cottage Museum Assistants
We open the railway cottage to the public as often as is possible and some of our volunteers act as tour guides, whilst others may bring the cottage to life through costumed portrayal.

As a researcher you can be helping to create new workshops for visiting schools, temporary exhibitions, working on special projects and much more

Based at our Railway Institute & Cottage we have a selection of small gardens, and allotments which are used within our workshops and open to the public at weekends and special open days.

Prop Making & Restoration
The Education Department uses a wide variety of props within its workshops and as handling objects. Some are original period items, but some need to be created from scratch. Recently our volunteers have fully restored a 1930's pram, created an Egyptian Mummy, built a workshop for the cottage and number of other projects.

Resource Production
As you can see within our workshops section on this website we also create learning resources for use within schools and education. We are forever updating existing and creating new material. Could you help?

Project Assistants
We often organise special projects within the Education Department such as the planning, restoration and dressing of the railway cottage.

Media Production

Event Assistants

Whatever your interest or skill level, there is a place for you in the Education Department.
